My Summer (Abridged in 3 parts)

1
They're heading to the Denny's now, filled with testosterone and alcohol and half finished jokes. They could be anybody: road worn sneakers, spiky hair, both in denim jackets like they're still kids and their mom wants them to look like twinsies. They're eyeing us now. Then the big one stops and leans over toward my uncle:
"You got a lotta nerve hanging out with those french fries."
Sean just laughs and throws his hands up as though asked to square root some indivisible number.
"It wasn't me, man. I got the mashed potato."

2
Two girls walk down the street, waving at the cars speeding by. Together they raise up the sign. Its brightly colored with streamers glued to it. It reads:
"Honk if you like Unicorns!"
I watch my father meekly tap the horn. Then we keep our eyes on the road. Finally, he breaks.
"What else was I supposed to do?"

She says: "I don't get guys today, guys and weapons. Like my cousin, take him for example. He bought this samurai sword on e-bay and now the damn thing is just sitting there over the fireplace."
Then Me: "I got an uncle the same way."
Her: "Why don't they take classes or something, learn how to use it or something..."
Me: "I guess it just a cool thing to have, you know, like "Yeah, thats my samurai sword over the fireplace..."
Her: No, thats bullshit man. Ask any samurai. The only place to put a samurai sword is in somebody."
